I've worked as a freelance worship leader since 1997, serving in the roles of cantor, vocal soloist, keyboard player, and worship band leader. I was raised in the Catholic church and always loved the music used in the liturgy. My first taste of being a worship leader came in high school, when I started to cantor at our local church. It wasn't until I started my daily relationship with Christ in college that I came to know the true meaning of worship. In my early 20s, I started attending a charismatic church and found my gospel voice. What a thrilling time that was for me! I went off to grad school in 1993 and met Christian record producer, Nate Sabin, who really encouraged me to step out of my classical comfort zone and pursue gospel music. Nate was my first exposure to the contemporary worship leader and he had a tremendous impact on my passion for leading worship. It took me a few more years to get comfortable with singing the gospel style before I could do that AND play the piano at the same time! Being a classically trained pianist, I never learned how to play by ear or even read a simple chord chart. I’ve enjoyed working on this part of my craft and have succeeded to a level that has allowed me to write my own piano arrangements on my debut album of original music, Red Light, Green Light. In 2005, I joined the staff of Woodlands Church in Plover WI as a part-time worship intern. During that brief period, I started to realize that leading worship was my calling. I started to branch out in ministry and led worship at women’s events and retreats. After only six weeks as an intern at Woodlands, my husband’s new job required us to move to Onalaska, WI. Since moving here in 2005, I’ve become established in the local Christian community as a freelance musician and worship leader, serving as a substitute musician for weekend services. I recently took a leave of absence from my role in the worship ministry at my home church, First Free, in order to focus on my solo worship concert and my solo debut album, which will be released in 2010. I’m available as a church service substitute musician or band leader. My fee is negotiable, but varies between $55 - $150, depending on the role I fill. Add me to your call list so that your worship director can have a break every once in a while! |
